​2019 is off to a memorable start for many reasons.  Our new site, the Silver Park Campus, is currently under construction and progressing well.  We are excited for its eventual opening and look forward to regularly updating our current and prospective families on this significant project.  In addition, Gabriella and Franco had the opportunity to attend a couple of inaugurations for friends who were elected to new government offices.
 
At one of these inaugurations, Gabriella and Franco spent part of one morning at San Francisco’s City Hall.  This event celebrated the inauguration of District 10’s new supervisor, Shamann Walton, a true leader and excellent friend.  As you may know, the Silver Park Campus is located in District 10, and we are enthusiastic about our new supervisor with whom Franco had previously worked on key education funding issues in San Francisco.  Along with his team, Supervisor Walton is a champion for District 10, education matters and children.
 
Franco and Supervisor Walton chaired the Quality Teacher and Education Act Oversight Committee in fiscal year 2014-15 which was Franco’s final year of his four-year term.  During this period, Supervisor Walton was elected to the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Board and eventually became its President.  This oversight committee is responsible for helping ensure that the SFUSD is properly allocating approximately $40 million per year for twenty years on priorities set forth in 2008’s Proposition A.  To read more about the implementation of Proposition A, you may refer to this summary prepared by the Stanford University Center for Education Policy:

Franco and Gabriella continue to work tirelessly in support of educational initiatives and all Bay Area families affected by them.

We are so gratified by the positive response at our May 31 Open House event, IMAGINE!, at our forthcoming Silver Park campus!  Thank you to the many families who attended; it was a joy to meet you and in some cases meet your babies-in-arms as well! As you could see, our staff couldn’t resist cooing at them…

IMAGINE attendees began the event by taking a self-guided tour. Our staff distributed directional maps, and directional arrows on the floor guided parents’ route through the spaces. As they walked through the expansive, light-filled spaces and the protected rear yard, parents viewed designer’s renditions of the future rooms.  

Our staff members greeted parents in each space:  infant, toddler, preschool, and outdoor yard, and were available to chat and answer parents’ questions.  Several people remarked on their welcoming smiles and their wonderful personalities, thank you! We loved meeting you.  

Truly we believe the teachers are the pillars of Primeros Pasos; they spend the most time with your children every day.  We look for people who sincerely enjoy being with children, and who have as we say “a true heart” to work with children. The healthy emotional attachment between children and their caregivers is fundamental to successful learning in a safe environment.  Positive relationships with their teachers also help children build social and emotional skills which truly are fundamental to your child’s future success in school.

Primeros Pasos is overjoyed to have cared for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in our nurturing Spanish immersion program for 5 years now!  We know that our best success lies in the wonderful relationships we have developed with the children in our care, and with their families! We thank them for their trust:  we have appreciated caring for 8 sets of siblings (and counting! 3 more are scheduled to join us); we appreciate their referrals to their friends; and we appreciate their positive testimonials on Yelp and other websites.

It has long been difficult to respond to the volume of inquiries that we receive.  We give priority to siblings and to referrals, and as a small school of 12-14 children, we rarely have openings for admission to our program.  As we’d like to help as many families as possible with our play-based, caring, Spanish immersion program, we are developing a second location!

We will retain our current location open in Glen Park, and we are working to open our second location at the Silver Park condominium complex on the corner of Bayshore and Silver in the Fall of 2018.   As of this writing, we are projecting an October opening date. Given San Francisco approvals and permits, as well as State licensing processes, there are many factors at play. We will publish a firm opening date as soon as it is available, which we project to be mid-summer.

We welcome you to join us on May 31 for our “Imagine” event Open House at the new Silver Park campus. We will be on hand to guide you on a tour of the new spaces from 5:30 – 6 p.m., then to present information about our program and answer your questions from 6 – 6:30 p.m.  Refreshments will be served, so please RSVP here so we may prepare accordingly!

Interest forms will be available at the event and we will track them in the order received, with no obligation.  You will receive periodic updates from us as the construction progresses.

Once we have a firm opening date available, which we project to have by mid-summer, we will meet with families to further answer questions and confirm interest.  At that time, we will request a deposit to hold your spot in the charter Centro Primeros Pasos class of 2018 – 19! If at that time your family chooses another care option, we look forward to seeing you in the community.
